Leo Vieira started this petition to Iain Francis Lees-Gallowa (Minister of immigration)

For a few years the pool for parent category has been closed, Immigrants on permanent resident visa or New Zealand Citizens cannot be together with their parents on a permanent basis unless the parents have a significant amount of cash in income in their retirement.

The proposal to this issue is to re-open the parent category visa and start the grant of resident visas to parents who their children are in New Zealand permanently. If the government does not want to spend money of our health system with elderly people just give us the option for a private health insurance , it should be enough to look after our fathers and mothers. the children sponsoring their parents should be able to afford these costs, provide a comfortable housing situation and be able to provide their basic needs.

I am 37 years old, New Zealand Citizen originally from South America. I have been in New Zealand for over 13 years, I have never relied on the NZ government benefits, I have always been employed and working full time. I am a only child, my mother she is going to be 75 years old in June 2019. She is healthy, active, she is retired , my mum is from a traditional Italian family of 12 brothers and sisters, of her side of the family she is the only one that's alive. She is also a grandmother of a 4 years old Kiwi girl, which is always looking forward to spend time with her granny, my mum has visit NZ once in 2017/18.
As her only son I would like to look after my mother here in New Zealand where I made my home, where I am raising my family. She has nobody to rely on but myself. If you support the union of families in the same situation as mine, and feel that you also are running out of time, waiting for the NZ Immigration department to take action and to look after the people that they allowed to live and breath the principles, morals and kiwi culture.
Please sign this petition and show your support for those who need to have their families re-united.
