Two sisters, aged 10 and 12 years, were raped and murdered in a village under Mohammadi Kotwali limit in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh on 25 March, 2017.
The above paragraph is not meant to incite rage in you and make you more likely to sign my petition, but to give you another reminder about the mind-numbing condition of rapes in our country. I could give all sorts of official statistics here, but you as an informed individual know the extent of the problem and the vulnerability of women in this country.
A major problem, howsoever we may overlook it, is the overburdening of law and order facilities in our country.
While much has been said and done, the situation does not seem to improve. What I'm about to suggest is just a tool I hope will help in sorting out this tangled mess.
We can help set up a system directly encouraging the involved public service authorities and the helping civilians to solve cases, protect the victims from harassment, and ensure that future rapists clearly see that they will be dealt severe punishments with heavy priority and alacrity from the law and its enforcing bodies.
This move would help bring an edge to prosecution against rapists and sex offenders and would drive the public service authorities to sharpen their efforts in the same, with promise of reward and recognition in forms the esteemed government may deem just.
I would also not write something radical in my conclusion to drive you to help in with this petition, for you are an educated human , informed about all things which make us human and people of this great country, making the safety of them all our uttermost priority and constantly striving for the same, and not just when the horrors of humanity show up.
