Defend Wandsworth's Sexual Health Service

We condemn the removal of the Wandsworth Sexual Health Service from St George's Hospital to inferior premises at Balham Health Centre and Queen Mary's, Roehampton.
We demand that Wandsworth Council restore the cuts in funding, staffing and facilities. We also demand that the Service is rapidly relocated in a suitable building that ensures patient privacy.
Wandsworth's Sexual Health clinic has been closed at St George's Hospital in Tooting because the Council is cutting public health funding. The service has been moved to less suitable temporary premises at Balham Health Centre and Queen Mary's Hospital in Roehampton. The changes include cuts in staff, hours, and space. The use of the Balham surgery reduces patient privacy. Fourteen doctors and experts from St George's have written a statement attacking the changes as "unsafe, unworkable and unsustainable". They predict an increase in sexually transmitted infections, HIV and unwanted pregnancies and say that young people will have less counselling and safeguarding.
