Allow Mrs. Barbara Pittman to remain at Kensington Elementary School

Mrs. Barbara Pittman is synonymous with Kensington Elementary School. She has been the face of the front office for 30 years and is usually the first person you may come in contact with when visiting. The parents all know her, she knows all the students, what class they are in, who their teachers are, and most of all the children all love her. Not to allow Mrs. Pittman to work the one last year of her employment at a school that she loves and adores and has put so much into is a disservice to the school, the parents, the staff and most importantly the kids. It is also a dishonor to the 30 years of service Mrs. Pittman has given to this school and community.  As a parent of two children that attended KES from Kindergarten through 5th grade almost 10 years ago, I am so disheartened that this is even being considered.  Mrs. Pittman knows each and every one of those students that attend this school.  She is a friendly face that they will always remember and she was always aware of the needs that each of these children may have. This is a rare find and one that I would think ANY school would want to hold on to!  This upcoming year will again see so many staff changes at KES. Why not keep the one person that intricately knows every detail about this school, to create some continuity from the past to the new?

In a world where longevity and loyalty is the rarest of traits, let's not set aside the one constant of an elementary school that no doubt has received much of it's awesomeness from the lady that has perched herself at the front desk through many administrations, principals, teachers and thousands of students. Mrs. Pittman is an icon of Georgetown and Kensington Elementary.  Our kids face different challenges every school year. Please don't change the one enduring face that has the respect of the community, the school, the parents and most of all our children. Kensington Elementary deserves better. And so does Mrs. Pittman.
