Chris Chapman started this petition to Randolph County School System Board of Education

We would like to name the football/soccer field at Southwestern Randolph High School "Charlie Chapman Field" after former head football coach and athletic director, Charlie Chapman.

  • Charlie was the head football coach for Southwestern Randolph High School from 1985-1996 and has the most wins (by far) of any other football coach in SW Randolph High School history with 53 wins from 1985-1996 (nearly twice that as the 2nd most wins).
  • On top of his work on the football field, he was also athletic director at SW Randolph from 1985-1996 as well and did more for the athletics programs at SW Randolph than anyone in the history of the school, including starting the soccer program that plays on the field we would like to name “Charlie Chapman Field” as well as starting the wrestling and tennis programs at SWR.
  • During his time as athletic director at SWR, the Cougars brought home the State Championship in volleyball in 1991 and 1992 as well as Cheerleading State Championships in 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995.
  • He was also head varsity baseball coach for SWRHS in 1996 making him a head football coach, head baseball coach, and athletic director all in the same year. He was also head JV baseball coach from 1992-1995
  • Charlie has been the commissioner of the Mid-Piedmont 3A conference (SWR’s conference) since 2009.
  • Not only did he do as much as he did for the athletics programs at SW Randolph, but he was (and still is) a very influential member of the Cougar Community. Many members of this community talk about how much Charlie Chapman did for them and what he has meant to them and still means to them to this day.
  • Charlie Chapman was inducted into the North Carolina High School Athletic Director’s Association Hall of Fame in 2016 based on his work as athletic director at Southwestern Randolph and Asheboro High School.
  • Other honors he has received during his time as an educator, athletic director, and coach are as follows:

Southwestern Randolph High School Teacher of the Year

Central Tar Heel Conference Football Coach of the Year

Randolph County Football Coach of the Year (3 times)

SW Randolph Fellowship of Christian Athletes Coach of the Year
