Aunt Dot started this petition to Ramsey School District

Once a week, almost every Ramsey High School student is forced to cut their lunch in half and sit in an unnecessary lab period. Students are forced to be in their science classroom for 85 minutes (an extra 30 minutes compared to the regular 55 minute class period) and are expected to be attentive and listening. How are students expected to pay attention when they are deprived of their free time, time to eat, and time to socialize? The average high school student’s attention span is 10-15 minutes yet the Ramsey School District expects over an hour of concentration. In “lab” students rarely do actual labs. On multiple occasions students have reported that they did not complete anything important or necessary in the extra 30 minute period. Many times students are left with an extra ten or twenty minutes remaining in the period, this just goes to show how majority of labs are unnecessary. In addition, how are students expected to eat their lunch in such a short amount of time. By the time students leave their class, wait through the massive lunch line, sit down, they have about 15 minutes to eat. It is not fair to students. Growing minds need some sort relaxation and socializing and just a break from school. Labs strip this away and deprived them of necessary needs. This needs to change.
