Virginia imposed Highway Use Fee (HUF) on Fuel efficient vehicles with avg. miles/g more than 25. I was surprised seeing the Vehicle registration fee higher for my fuel efficient car vs my SUV. While the state is bragging to become an example of promoting energy efficiency and clean energy, they are penalizing the good citizens for supporting the state's policy by purchasing energy efficient vehicles to reduce fossil fuel consumption, reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emission. The Governor should promote Fuel efficient vehicles through incentifying the good behavior not by taxing. The revenue should be generated by taxing the Gas guzzlers and reduce operating costs in Department of Motor Vehicles and other departments, not by taxing good citizens to help fight pollution and Climate change. Why are we pushing Auto makers to make fuel efficient vehicles if the state is going to slap a fee for ordinary citizens buying such vehicles. How could the State punish for doing the right thing?
