Rachel Enser started this petition to Governor Ralph S. Northam and

Vienna needs safe pedestrian pathways to essential businesses, located on Maple Avenue and Church Street.

Vienna residents also need safe access to sidewalks and trails for healthy outdoor recreation with their families and pets.

Sidewalks and footpaths are inadequate for safe physical-distancing along Beulah Rd, Courthouse Rd, and Nutley St. Pedestrians are forced into busy roadways in order to stay 3-6 ft apart from others.

Many small neighborhood roads are congested with "cut-thru" car traffic, and lack any sidewalks at all.

Pedestrians and cyclists must cram together at busy intersections on Maple Ave, waiting for access to crosswalks. Meanwhile, lights are timed to let non-essential car traffic whizz through.

This requires urgent attention from local officials, as Vienna residents and businesses continue to grapple with Covid-19.

With respect and gratitude, we demand change.

  1. Please deploy officers in PPE to direct traffic at busy intersections on Maple Ave.
  2. Shut down car traffic on Church Street.
  3. Restrict car traffic on neighborhood "shortcuts" thru Vienna.
  4. Provide a long term plan to re-route non-stop traffic from Tysons.
