Why this petition matters

Started by Julie Thompson

Since the pandemic and it’s restrictions, the VA DMV has required appointments to receive in-person services. These services, being nearly impossible to receive in a timely fashion and sometimes requiring customers to travel out of town to have access to services that are required by the commonwealth is both inappropriate and unnecessary, particularly since restrictions have been lifted. This major inconvenience is costly for citizens as many essential services the DMV provides are expensive and required in-person, and having to travel up to an hour or more for an appointment is unfair to the people. Customers should absolutely not be required to wait up to three months for licensing, new registrations, identification cards, and other services that require in-person business, nor should citizens be required to drive 100 miles away to obtain these services. We, the undersigned citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia, request our elected officials require the DMV to resume normal business hours and operations immediately as the current system places people at a disadvantage and is an indirect denial of a essential and necessary government service to many citizens of the Commonwealth.
