Mrs. Ortiz started this petition to Governor Ralph S. Northam

My fiancé Dominic Ortiz, like most young minorities in his situation grew up as a product of his environment. He wasn’t given a fair chance to really learn how to live life the correct way until he became incarcerated at the age of 18 years old.

Before my fiancé became incarcerated he was a father to two children, soon to be three. The third child is also  his youngest child Royal whom he shares with me his fiancé Pilar Hasan.

My fiancé has plead  guilty to a crime in which he was sentence seven years in the penitentiary. Out of that seven years he was told to serve five and come home with 18 months probation. Dominic hasn’t had any prior convictions to be sentenced to such an extensive conviction. My fiancé was guilty of his associations, I’m not saying that the justice system was completely inaccurate when sentencing my fiancé for the crime that he pled guilty of. However, I am saying for somebody so young without any prior convictions, a chance at some form of rehabilitation prior to convicting him would be a safer alternative.

I am asking for the state of Virginia to consider a number of factors in his release. My fiancé was diagnosed with ADHD. Not only that, during the time of his conviction he was suffering from the loss of his mother. As a young man who was already struggling with his own mental health on top of losing one of the closest person to him, while also abusing substance to cope, wasn’t exactly in his right state of mind to make healthy decisions. The loss of his mother caused him to create a more self-destructive approach to his life. Since then all of that has turned around, it is in my opinion that Rehabilitation would’ve been a much more appropriate form of consequence.

A lot of prisoners may utilize their time in which ever way they seem to fit. My fiancé has utilize every day of every year that he has spent in there creating a better version of himself. The change in his mindset and his growth is like something you see in a movie, who knows maybe one day! He spends his time writing music in cell. Ask the Correctional officers and inmates in the facilities about my future husband‘s talent. They will tell you that young man is a star who will one day end up on every radio station across America, and even in foreign countries. I’m saying that because I know that my future husband is a superstar, and releasing him will be one of the best decisions the state of Virginia could ever make when it comes to allowing a Pardon and a second chance for a young minority Male such as Mr. Dominic Ortiz.

He is a wonderful father and from behind those prison walls he still doing a wonderful job helping me raise my children. He is a wonderful fiancée always encouraging me and motivating me to do better. He’s always excited to tell me about the things that he has accomplished to better himself, while sharing the knowledge that he learns with me ensuring that I’m doing the same.

We’re asking you for a conditional pardon to release him from prison earlier than his sentenced date of release. We’re even being bold enough to ask the state to allow him to come home this year in 2021. He has already served over three years incarcerated. Now he is ready to become a positive addition to this society. Once he is released he will use his time and freedom to create a positive change through his actions, music, and encouraging words. This will make the governor that signs his pardon very proud to say they’ve done so.

We ask that you take into consideration that during the time of his conviction he experienced the loss of his mother as well as dealing with ADHD, and substance abuse. We will work hard to refrain from anyone or anything that can cause any potential setbacks. My fiancé will be working diligently in the recording studios creating music that the whole world can sing and dance to. I’m sure when you release him he’ll sing to you as a thank you for the great work you have done and will continue to do.
Sincerely,

Hasan-Ortiz family,

Thank you !
