TO: The City of Cape Town – Transport Network Development :
Road users ignore the speed limit and stop controls along Range Road Blackheath and we recently experienced a fatal road accident, where a pedestrian was killed near the entrance to Continental China, in addition to other regular road traffic accidents involving pedestrians.
Drag racing and other competitive speed races also take place along Range Road after hours. A recent survey concluded that all respondents were in favour of raised intersections within the Blackheath Industrial Area.
We, the undersigned, hereby therefore petition the City of Cape Town’s Transport Network Development: TDA Cape Town as follows: -
That the City of Cape Town’s Transport Network Development Department approves and prioritises funding for the implementation of raised intersections at the intersection of School and Range Roads, as well as a signalised, raised pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Station and Range Roads in Blackheath.
In addition, raised intersections are required at the intersections of Heath Circle and Wimbledon Road, at School and Wimbledon Roads and then also at Vineyard and Buttskop Roads where school children need to cross safely on route to the Blackheath Primary School.
