The Friends of the Lower Eau Claire River is a non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the river. Located in the Wausau, Wisconsin metro area, we invite you to experience all the Eau Claire River has to offer. These 'Friends' are sponsoring this petition.

Recently, the Village of Weston authored an idea, which was published as the Lower Eau Claire River Water Trail Master Plan. The Plan is available for download from the Village's website, located at www.westonwi.gov.

This Master Plan calls on the City of Wausau, the City of Schofield, the Village of Weston, the Town of Weston, and the Town of Ringle, in partnership with Marathon County to build and maintain multiple public access points for canoe/kayak sport and recreation enthusiasts along the lower portions of the Eau Claire River. Nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts also are being targeted as a group benefiting from this project.

The Village of Weston has completed the first access point at the Ross Avenue bridge, and they are currently planning for a second site by the County Road J bridge.

It is hard to quantify and rally an approximate number of canoe and kayak enthusiasts here in central Wisconsin. If you are a canoer and/or kayaker, or if you just happen to love the public having increased accessibility to this natural resource, and you support the framework and call to action presented in the Master Plan, please sign this petition and indicate your support for these planning/construction efforts.

Questions? The Friends have established a local Facebook page and an online gathering space for neighbors who are interested in learning more about our efforts.
