Petition to
Rains ISD School Board of Trustees

Why this petition matters

Started by Jeremy Wilson

Dear Board President Alexander, Vice President Young, Secretary Sisk, Member Burns, Member Sustaire, Member Potts, Member Elliott:

We respectfully request the Rain ISD school board to update the dress code currently prohibiting male students from growing out their hair.

The Rains ISD dress code states:

“A male student's hair must be neat, clean, and cut often enough to ensure good grooming. Any style that allows the hair to extend over a dress collar, over the eyes, or fall into the face and cover the eyes is unacceptable. On the sides, it must not be longer than the bottom of the earlobes. No artificial means to conceal the length of the hair is allowed; i.e., ponytails, etc.

Distracting hair color(s), mohawks, tails, designs, visible letters, numbers, symbols or spikes will not be permitted on male or female students.”

This antiquated policy equates to gender discrimination, penalizing our Rains Wildcat boys who simply wish to grow out their hair.

The Rains Wildcat boys are asking the Rain ISD school board to update the dress code to simply be equal.

Example:

All student's hair must be neat, clean, and cut often enough to ensure good grooming and hygiene.

Distracting hair color(s), mohawks, tails, designs, visible letters, numbers, symbols or spikes will not be permitted on any students.

Sincerely

Rains Wildcat boys
