Make masks optional for kindergarten students in Rainbow District School Board

The Ontario back-to-school reopening plan states that masks are mandatory for Grades 1 to 12, and encouraged but optional for Kindergarten students.
Sick Kids released a guide on safe school operation during the pandemic, which states that masks should not be mandated for Kindergarten students. The guide states that for non-medical masks to be effective they would need to be worn correctly, which for many otherwise healthy children will be difficult to do for a full school day. This guide was written and co-written by a panel of numerous Paediatricians, Infectious disease specialists, Psychiatrists, Immunologists, Paediatric Neurologists and many other highly educated professionals.
On this same note, The Rainbow District School Board has just released their reopening guide which states that all kindergarten students are required to wear a non-medical face covering or face shield in all indoor spaces.
Let’s give our kindergarten children more freedom to learn this year, to interact and socialize in a more normal setting. Let’s follow recommendations by health professionals who understand and who have outweighed the risks and benefits of masking children.
Please sign this petition if you agree that masks should not be mandatory for Kindergarten students.
