Mayor Emanuel, fund and support CeaseFire to save lives!

In March 2015, state funding for the Cure Violence program in Chicago, (aka CeaseFire) was cut. As a result, shootings and killings in Chicago began to dramatically increase. 2016 became the deadliest year over a 10-year period in our city. OVER 400 people have been shot in less than three months during 2017! Residents and partners of Chicago want this violence to end. It can, and will, with your signature, please share this petition with people who care about Chicago's gun violence epidemic.
Four Chicago aldermen have asked Mayor Rahm Emanuel for $5 million to support CeaseFire's work in communities hardest hit by shootings. In response, Mayor Emanuel's office has cited other priorities, such as the "police body camera program" and "rehabbing vacant homes". While these are no doubt useful actions, unlike CeaseFire, there is no proven scientific correlation between police officers wearing body cameras and reduced shootings or deaths. In stark contrast, Cure Violence is ranked #12 in top NGOs in the world, in the same company as Doctors Without Borders, OXFAM and Save the Children. Through Cure Violence, CeaseFire works directly with high risk individuals and groups (gangs/cliques/mobs) to protect our city's youth and teach alternatives to violence. This model is successful in many other cities in the nation and globally!
Cure Violence/CeaseFire is one of the few programs to prove its effectiveness in reducing violence by 30-50% in the first year of operations in high risk communities and significantly higher rates after 2-3 years. Let's act now to mitigate future shootings in our city!
Please, sign this petition and help us tell the Mayor that you support CeaseFire and Cure Violence in their endeavor to save lives!
