Federal Judge Cebull (appointed by George W. Bush in 2001 to the Federal bench) admits to having forwarded an outragious and racist email with a punchline that insinuates that President Obama's mother practiced bestiality. Has he no shame?
The email says: "A little boy said to his mother; 'Mommy, how come I'm black and you're white?' His mother replied, 'Don't even go there Barack! From what I can remember about that party, you're lucky you don't bark!'"
Cebull further reveals his bias, lack of judgement and lack of self-awareness by stating: "The only reason I can explain it to you is I am not a fan of our president, but this goes beyond not being a fan," he said. "I didn't send it as racist, although that's what it is. I sent it out because it's anti-Obama."
We need jurists on our highest benches, not racist political hacks.
While Cebull has apologized, that's clearly not enough. He has brought the judicial bench into disrepute. He needs to resign, or be impeached by the House of Representatives and Senate. While it's hard to remove a sitting Federal judge, it's not impossible. Our code of judicial ethics requires that judges act honorably so that they are understood to be impartial interpreters of our constitution and laws. By both his lack of judgement and his attempt to explain this lapse because of his political viewpoints, he has proven himself unfit to serve as a judge.
Jeffrey Toobin of CNN predicts Cebull will not be removed - or face any punishment - for his outrageous behavior. The only way to curb this offensive behavior is to make your voice heard! http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/02/us/montana-judge-racist-message/index.html
