We need to constantly demonstrate that we live in a humane society and get our priorities right .The child has two parents that brought him /her into the world .It is a necessity not a privilege for both parents to have the chance to be there.

I'm due to give birth in August in the ACT and had planned for my partner and mother to be in the room. First time mum and I'm scared I can't have the support people I want/need.

As a midwife it is not fair for women to have to choose between their partner and in most cases their mum to support them through their labour. Both are as important as each other and deserve to share the special occasion of birth
