The railroad crossings in the Air Park Industrial District of Memphis, Tennessee, are in deplorable condition. The pavement around them is full of large, deep potholes; in many areas the rails jut out high above the driving surface. Often, vehicles are forced into the wrong lane as drivers try to maneuver the obstacle course.

Half-hearted asphalt patch jobs have proven no match for traffic's daily wear-and-tear coupled with the challenges of Memphis weather. The crossings have become road hazards, endangering drivers, passengers, vehicles and cargo. Moreover, as infrastructure is a key ingredient to the economic success of our industrial district, the condition of these crossings poses a threat to the health of our businesses.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation Office of Rail Safety and Inspection explains: "Tennessee law requires railroads to maintain the crossing surfaces where roads and rails intersect at-grade." Therefore, we business owners and employees of Air Park respectfully request that RJ Corman Railroad Company and BNSF Railway comply with state law by repairing the rail crossings in our industrial district for the safety of our selves and our property, and to promote economic prosperity in our community.
