Keep Zone 5 Under 35/43kg Rugby League Carnival the same format it has been for 50 years
Why this petition matters
This carnival commenced in 1969.
Teams will travel from Cunnamulla, Western Downs, MacIntyre, Balonne Barwon, South Burnett, Wynnum, Central Downs and Warwick.
The host centre funds the carnival through sponsorship and donations from local businesses, the host centre is on a 9 year rotation.
The rotation factor delivers a large financial windfall to each host centre town and football club, with visiting teams, parents, guardians and team officials requiring accommodation, meals, vehicle repairs etc, thus injecting a large amount of money into the community.
It is TOTALLY self-reliant for funding, with all centres relying on their own fundraising ideas and methods and NOT HANDOUTS FROM THE QRL or NRL.
The carnival develops players, match officials, coaching staff as well as First Aid Officers who all benefit from the carnival. Some of our NRL greatest have attended this carnival such as Shane Webcke, Darren Lockyer and Petero Civoniceva.
There is a winner of the carnival and trophies and awards for player of the carnival, best forward etc.
The QRL don't want winners or awards for these things because it is outside their definition of the player development profile. THEY WILL CANCEL THE CARNIVAL IF WE DO NOT COMPLY.
Carnivals like this are great for the game of Rugby League. Our kids want to play footy and our volunteers want to develop them.
