Over the last few years, the population in Forest Lake, Inala and Richlands has increased. Because many of the residents in these areas work in or near the city, they require parking at the Richlands station. The problem however, is that there really isn't enough parking to meet the increase of residents in these areas. By 7.30am each week day, the parks are taken up and cars are left driving around the carpark in frustration trying to find somewhere to park. There are yellow lines along the walls, which people now have to park along so that they can make their train on time. The Police are then coming nearly every day to fine the people who park there.

I would understand the fines if there were other alternatives for the parking situation, however there are absolutely none. If you look around this area, you  will find that there is nowhere that one can park at outside of the station. I guess people could drive to Wacol or Gailes, however not only is this not a viable option for many people, but the reason why people take the train is for convenience, reduction in traffic congestion and reduction of pollution. To then be forced to drive around Brisbane trying to find a park completely defeats the purpose of taking the train.

I think that it is extremely unfair that hardworking people are being forced to cough up hundreds of dollars in parking fines, when Brisbane City Council, Translink and the local member of parliament continue to turn a blind eye to it. The parking situation causes stress and anxiety to commuters, because you never know if there are going to be parking spots available, or if a parking ticket is going to be waiting on their car by the end of the day.

I understand that in comparison to other things going on in the world, this might seem trivial. However, when the government continues to take money from people who are left with no other options for a situation that is out of their control, I think that this is a terrible injustice.
