The Australian states of Tasmania, South Australia, ACT and the Northern Territory have already banned retailers from supplying single-use plastic bags, so what is stopping Queensland?
Plastic is responsible for killing 1 million sea birds and over 100,000 sea mammals per year. Each year there is approximately 6,000,000 tonnes of plastic dumped into our oceans.
The Australian government spends 4 million dollars per year towards cleaning up littered plastic bags, funded by your tax dollars which could be better spent on schools, healthcare and your community.
Plastic bags are serial killers. If an animal consumes the bag, when it dies the body of the animal will decompose faster than the bag (plastic bags don't biodegrade, they just break up into smaller and smaller pieces), so the same bag is released back into the environment to kill again.
Please sign this petition or write to Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to support the ban of plastic bags!
