Health Practitioner – Here to Stay
The Health Practitioner classification structure was established to recognise the critical role played by Health Practitioners within clinical environments such as hospitals, community health services and in public health.
The work that Health Practitioners do is vital to all Queenslanders and an integral part of the Health system.
The classification structure, recognising the clinical skill and expertise of this workforce, was established to fix the systemic issues in the underpayment, loss of experienced staff and major recruitment and retention problems for Queensland that impacted on the delivery of health services to Queenslanders.
This structure is now under attack.
We have just a few days to make our case to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission about why HP should be here to stay. The Government is seeking to “simplify” the working conditions of Queensland Health staff and this could put the entire HP classification on the chopping block.
We do not want to return to the days when allied health, diagnostic and public health staff were significantly worse off when compared with interstate colleagues or other clinical professionals. The Commission has already indicated that they are prepared to keep the separate Nursing and Medical Officer classification structures. The Health Practitioner classification structure must also be retained.
We cannot let the HP structure disappear. We must have a strong showing of support - HP here to stay!
