Hi,

I would like the current speed limit laws to be reviewed on major highways and motorways.  As far as I can Google they are 50 years old, see below,

When were speed limits introduced in Australia?
An absolute speed limit of 70 miles per hour (113 km/h) was introduced to Victoria in 1971, as a trial. This was subsequently reduced to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in late 1973. South Australia introduced an absolute speed limit of 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in 1974.

Modern cars and motorcycles are capable of much higher cruising speeds.  On selected roads I think the speed limits should be increased for full license holders during off peak periods, for example from 8pm at night until 5am in the morning.

Riding to work on a motorcycle for nightshift the 4 lane motorway is practically empty yet even if I am the only person using the road the speed limits still apply.  Modern motorcycles have ABS, slide control, cornering ABS, traction control & many more electronic rider aids that make it safe.  Compared to 50 years ago I would say cars and motorbikes have improved dramatically in safety & performance.

I would like interested like minded people to sign my petition to increase the speed limits on selected highways & motorways & have the laws changed.  In a few years cars will probably drive themselves anyway.

Thankyou

Ashley
