Hello, my name is Paulo, I am the carer of my dad who was hospitalised last year and became very ill spending 6 months in hospital under constant care. During his hospital stay, the hospital made the decision without consultation of a Clinical Psychologist or Psychiatrist that my dad was deemed unable to make decisions for himself. We protested against this decision as they made the decision when he was at his most vulnerable. The Gold Coast University Hospital made an application to QCAT (Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal) to be appointed a public guardian and administrator for his finances. In August we found that QCAT favoured the hospitals application leading to him being appointed a public guardian and administrator for his finances. My dad left hospital care in late October and we were told that he would be returning home into our care. Unbeknownst to us, the public guardian made the decision that he should go into Aged Care. On the day he was removed from hospital, the nurses and case officer said that my dad was going home. But he was transported directly to aged care. We thought that it was disgusting behaviour that they lied about where he was going. Now onto the bigger issue. In January of 2022, he was taken out of aged care by myself and my brother for us to take care of him. We have been managing very well and he is receiving the care he needs. Now that he is healthier, he is able to make decisions for himself. Due to the Public Trustee QLD being appointed as his financial administrator. They began receiving his Centrelink payments. As of todays date, they have received nearly $5,000. We discussed with them in detail in October regarding the rental arrears and that they needed to be paid which they said that they would pay it. Come February, they have refused to pay the rental arrears leading to the possibility of eviction from our Unit and they know that a Notice to Leave has been issued but have chose to ignore it leading us to believe that they don’t care that we could become homeless. As of February he has not received any funds from the Public Trustee QLD and it has affected the ability to purchase his medications and other necessities he needs. The Public Trustee QLD was appointed to use his funds in the best interest of him and take his views and wishes into consideration and it is very clear that them refusing to pay the rental arrears and refusing to pay for his medications and necessities shows us that they don’t care and they are acting like it’s their money to spend which it’s not. With this petition, we hope to get the QCAT to overturn their decision which will allow for his Centrelink payments directly go to him. We hope you can understand the situation the Public Trustee QLD has put us in and I hope you will be able to sign this petition in order for QCAT to overturn their decision.
