Why this petition matters

Started by Laura Fadeley

Please tell me how Queens University of Charlotte can justify raising the tuition for this upcoming semester, even though they are providing their students less services than before. They recently switched all courses to online but somehow deemed it necessary for each student to provide them $780 more each semester. Each and every one of us chose this school for a reason. Whether it be for the in-person classes that provide us that face to face interaction, the athletics, the ability to utilize their on campus facilities, like the gym, the library, the printers, etc. However, we are no longer going to be provided these amenities and therefore should not be charged for them.

Personally, I chose this school for their on campus nursing program. There were many online programs available that were more cost effective and more time efficient, however I do not learn as well when it comes to online courses. Why don't I just transfer schools if I am this upset? Because nursing programs are difficult to get into, especially if you drop out of one. Many schools will view that as a sign of a non-committed student and will not even give your application a second look. I understand that COVID-19 could not have been predicted and that the school is trying to do the best they can to keep their students safe, but they should not use this pandemic as an opportunity to take advantage of their students and profit off of them.

You might say, "It's only $780. What's the big deal?". Well the big deal is that they are stealing from us! They are no longer providing the services that we signed up for and were expecting when we decided to enroll at Queens University, so we should not be charged the same amount as we were last semester when we were receiving all these services. If anything the tuition should have been lowered, not raised!

Please share and sign this petition so that we can receive some form of justification from Queens University. Thank you!
