We feel that the PSYC100 exam is highly unfair and unaccomodating to the new environment Queen’s University students are now faced with. The examination is formatted such that 120 questions are to be completed in 120 minutes, and students are unable to return and view the previous questions.
A challenging, application based question requires more than 1 minute to answer to the best of one’s ability, especially since students are no longer in an environment that promotes learning. Factors such as a poor internet connection, loud family members, and stress and anxiety regarding the Covid-19 pandemic are all challenges we are faced with when preparing for and writing the PSYC100 examination.
We are asking that the Queen’s Psychology department is more considerate towards these issues and allows us to have more time, or fewer questions on the overall examination. We understand that the choice to disable viewing previous questions is one regarding academic integrity, however we feel that there are better ways of ensuring academic integrity and not setting students up for failure.
