Quebec Soccer Federation: Allow Sikhs to wear turban while playing soccer
This petition had 99 supporters
The Quebec Soccer Federation (QSF) should immediately remove a ban on Sikh soccer players that prevents them from wearing a turban while participating in the sport. The ban, which came into effect last year, has prevented many Sikh youth from playing soccer. On June 2, 2013, the QSF decided that the ban would stay in place. Such a ban is not only discriminatory towards Sikhs, but an insult to all Canadians who believe in multiculturalism, equality and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Even the Canadian Soccer Association has stated that provincial soccer organizations should allow turbans to be worn. Turbans are an integral part of the Sikh religion and identity, and a ban such as the one imposed by the Quebec Soccer Federation does not exist in other Canadian provinces. Soccer is an international game that promotes teamwork, unity and diversity – let’s keep it that way. All Canadians are urged to sign this petition & support equal rights for all.
