Why this petition matters

Cancer patients and other immunocompromised individuals under the age of 60 in Quebec are in the second to last priority group for COVID-19 vaccinations. In 2019, my father was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. Other than his monthly treatments at the hospital, he has not left the house since March of 2020. That same month, I made the difficult choice to move out of my family’s house in fear that I might bring the virus home to him. I have not been able to see him, even outdoors, for nearly a year. My family’s situation is not unique. Cancer patients and other immunocompromised individuals across the world have been living in total isolation for far too long. These people are at just as high of a risk as the aging population who are currently receiving their vaccines. The fact that they are so low on the priority lists in Quebec and other Canadian provinces is devastating. In fact, representatives from the Quebec association of hematologists and oncologists stated that cancer patients and their caretakers should be placed higher on the list. Not only would vaccinating this population save countless lives, but it would also help ease the constant terror that they and their families endure. Please sign this petition to bring this situation to the attention of the Quebec National Assembly.
