Save lives - fund anorexia services in Qld

Funding to address the issue of Eating disorders in Qld is appalling.  When my daughter was 14 she was diagnosed wuth anorexia.  She is now 20 and worse than when she was 14.  During this time she has been shunted between 2 Adolescent Mental Health wards at Logan and Lady Cilento (Mater).  The inconsistency of approach and lack of specialist expertise has been overwhelming.  Our whole family suffer with her on a daily basis.  The dilemma for facilities treating u/18 patients are Qld health boundaries not patient needs.

Now that she is over 18 she can access adult services at the New Farm Clinic.  However, once again this facility caters for all mental health issues.  She sees a psychiatrist, psychologist and a dietitian on a fortnighly basis at our expense.  I acknowledge that we are the lucky ones:  my daughter is alive, drives and has a part time job.  She has many friends who have been  incapacitated by their abuse of laxatives, refusal to consume any foods or have taken their own lives.  Best of all I am no longer advised of anything due to privacy as my my daughter is over 18. What a mess.  Words can't describe the interrogation we have been through to provide a medical and mental health family history to each specialist and/or facility we have tried to engage with.

I don't want my daughter or anyone else's child to loose their life or limit their opportunities in life. There is a need for specialist facilities for eating disorders only and professional help to avoid being institutionalised.  I have spent many hours on the phone begging and pleading for help for my daughter.  We even had to wait 8 weeks to see a paediatrician at the start of this mess despite the GP and I pleading for urgency in helping us.

The pain and grief our family has suffered is too much to describe.  Please don't let this happen to any other son or daughter in our community.  I demand change.  Please help me to get someone to listen.
