PYLUSD Must Broadcast Board of Trustee Meetings

NonPartisan PYLUSD started this petition to Superintendent Jim Elsasser and

In November, PYLUSD constituents elected three new members to our school board. At least two of those board members ran on the issue of transparency. As we continue to navigate the pandemic and shut down it is more important than ever that families have access to board meetings.

Our Board of Trustees, with the full support of our District Officials, must broadcast their meetings effective immediately.

This is a non-partisan issue. School Board Trustees are non-partisan positions and so is the issue of having our school board meetings broadcast in a format that is inclusive of all the families that they were elected to serve.

Teleconferencing of local government meetings was enshrined into state law back in 1994 with the passage of The Brown Act. 24 of the 28 school districts across our county broadcast or record their meetings. Many districts in Orange County have taken the initiative to begin broadcasting meetings via YouTube, Zoom, or teleconference to provide access. At this point, however, PYLUSD has opted to remain in person only. With available technology and the precedent set by our neighbors across the county, there is no reason to delay implementing the broadcasting of our PYLUSD Board of Trustee Meetings.
