The U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland, is in violation of federal laws in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The problem is the U.S. original government surveys that were completed and registered by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic survey department are not on record in the U.S. Virgin Islands as the Land Act of February 11, 1805 demands. The Supreme Court of the U.S. says all original government surveys must be on record to avoid confusion and to protect private property rights. There is a treaty, Treaty Series No. 629(39 Stat. 1706) between Denmark and the United States which contracted to private property rights remaining the same after the transfer to the United States, it is international law. Native Virgin Islanders have lost their property due in part to the surveys not being on record. We need everyone to sign this petition to get the surveys on record today, It is the U.S. Secretary of the Interior's job under federal law to ensure the surveys are on record.
