PUT THE BRAKES ON BRANTFORD TAX INCREASES

As part of the '18 budget process, Brantford City Council circulated a survey to residents asking their opinions.
Approximately 2/3rds of respondents told council very clearly that they wanted NO tax increase for ‘18
More than half of respondents said they wanted LOWER taxes.
And what did they get – a budget increase of nearly 6 percent, offset by the impact of new assessment. This on the heels of many consecutive budget and tax hikes.
Simply put, council didn’t listen to constituents, again.
Councillors Dan McCreary & Greg Martin are bringing a resolution to permit two referendum questions on the fall 2018 City of Brantford election ballot.
The questions are:
- Are you in favour of a zero percent budget increase, that includes the impact of assessment growth, for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022?
- Are you in favour of no new user fees for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022?
If the referendum questions are answered by 50% of voters, and if 50% of responses are affirmative, then the result is binding on city council.
If you believe that City of Brantford voters and taxpayers deserve the opportunity to vote their opinion about a proposition to cap spending, please sign the petition.
