Westfield have provided parents with some great facilities - parents rooms with change tables, microwaves, comfortable breastfeeding cubicles and toilets large enough to fit prams and trolleys. But unfortunately what they haven't been able to provide is a safe space for parents and children.

I personally have experienced many times I have felt too unsafe and uncomfortable to utilise the parents rooms. And stories from mums all over the country have popped up which really are concerning.

Teenagers having sex on the breastfeeding couches, people doing drugs in the parents toilet, parents (and children!) finding used condoms and syringes. The list goes on. Parents are resorting to changing their baby's nappies in their car while there are perfectly good facilities located in Westfield.

So what can be done? I propose security call buttons in every parent room. Many times I have gone to look for security while childless men, teenagers and seemingly everyone BUT parents have been loitering in the parents room and using spaces designed for parents and their children. We need a safe and quick way to alert security when we need help, especially since babies and children often can't wait for a nappy change/feed.

Please Westfield, help us utilise your parents room facilities in a way that is safe and comfortable for all parents and children.
