In 2021 the Ford Government appointed Julie Sawchuk to serve as the chair of a standards development committee under the AODA. This position was filled internally, therefore taking away the opportunity for anybody outside the government to apply for the position. This committee was to be created due the lack of thought that is being put into accessibility when it comes to building infrastructure. The committee was supposed to have public servants to help the government understand what accessibility needs are not being met in certain communities and to ensure that moving forward all infrastructure has accessibility in mind. Since the Ford government appointed Julie Sawchuk no plans have been made to find public servants, and no work on this issue has been done. This issue impacts millions of individuals with disabilities, and stops them from being able to fully participate in daily activities.
