PETITION TO ALLOW PETS SHOPS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
TO CONTINUE TO SELL PUPPIES.
We do not agree with the State Government’s proposed legislation changes to ban the sale of puppies in pet shops. Pet shops are a valuable source of knowledge when it comes to the many different breeds and cross breeds of dogs. Pet shops that sell puppies help guide people in selecting the right type of dog for their situation.
Good pet shops ensure that their puppies come from ethical breeders. If the proposed changes are implemented then it would become much more difficult and more expensive to be able to get the puppy of your choice. This particularly would apply to cross-breeds such as Cavoodles, Moodles, and Maltese Shih Tzus.
A better way forward would be to have further regulation of pet shops selling puppies and where they come from rather than a ban.
