Support Creation of Pullman Forest

Pullman Forest is the LAST significant forest area and upper stream protection area in historic east Atlanta. We have one last chance to protect it, and offer rich educational and recreational opportunities to the community. The property will be sold by the end of 2017 .

Pullman Forest Alliance is a group of conservation-oriented organizations, neighborhoods and citizens creating the opportunity to develop a land trust to preserve the urban forest at the Pratt-Pullman Yard (Pullman Forest LLC). The proposed community land trust is comprised of a 10-acre woodland, a nature center, and an urban garden. The intent of Pullman Forest Alliance is to show the development group that acquires the property that this type of regenerative and nature based community use is what the community wants to see as part of the development of the Pullman-Pratt Yards. To this end, Pullman Forest Alliance would like to partner with the developer that wins the bid in order to preserve the Pullman Forest. As a non profit partner Pullman Forest LLC would secure funds for acquisition of the forest land, restoration of the forest, and improvements for the setup and maintenance of the nature center and programs.

 Pullman Forest components include:

A. FOREST PRESERVE: 10-acre forest preserve to protect the Hardee Creek upper stream watershed, the forest canopy, and to provide public access for passive recreation and interpretive programs. The Wylde Center and Trees Atlanta would facilitate the forest restoration

B. NATURE CENTER: a nature interpretive center (with adaptive reuse of the existing historic building) and a 1 acre urban garden and garden center

Please sign the petition as a show of support for the Pullman Forest. Time is of the essence as the property will be sold before the end of 2017.
