Tell District 60 not to replace union Nutrition Services jobs with a contractor.

Members of the District 60 School Board:
It has recently come to my attention that District 60 administration is considering replacing its nutrition services department with a contractor. This process will eliminate dozens of union workers’ jobs.
As a resident of Pueblo or the surrounding area, I understand how important a school meal can be in the lives of many of our children. This has become even more important in light of the pandemic and the economic hardship many in our city currently face.
Because my community and my neighbors’ jobs are important to me, I would like to add my voice to the growing outcry against this completely unnecessary privatization effort. Any attempt to replace public union jobs with a contractor is a slap in the face to the workers of Pueblo and our families. I understand that this plan is coming from administrators, not the Board, and so I am asking you to vote against it.
Working people everywhere are being drawn together in ways not seen in decades. It would be sad if our local community was to move in the opposite direction. Pueblo has long been a place where our effort is valued. I ask that the nutrition services staff be treated with the same respect. I hope you make the right decision for our kids and our community.
