More Concerned Novato School District Parents and Students started this petition to Publicly Elected Novato School Board Members

The Novato Unified School District has decided that students and their families have NO CHOICE as it relates to their rights to make a choice to keep their hard earned grades or to receive a CREDIT for the second semester of 2020.  Yet as the NUSD recommendation now goes to the VOTE of the seven publicly elected board members, you HAVE a CHOICE to express your opinion of giving the students the CHOICE to keep grades or take the credit by contacting each board member and signing this petition.  This vote will take place at the next NUSD board meeting Tuesday May 5th.

After deciding to implement credit / no credit in a “one size fits all- use the lowest common denominator” model on April 14th, the NUSD received 1,000’s of correspondence from students, parents and even teachers stating that at the minimum, the student should have a CHOICE to keep their grades or take the credit.

Many factors apparently came in to play: ethics, fairness, to protect those who may face challenges during this time, to allow for the results of hard work to be kept to the individual and that offering the CHOICE to all was indeed the most fair.

The community outrage forced the NUSD to reopen the decision.  A meeting was held and all inputs were to be considered.  The NUSD letter states that more than half the panel felt that giving the CHOICE to keep grades or take a credit was the right option.

Ultimately, the NUSD simply kept the same model of credit / incomplete, a slight variance to the much maligned credit / no credit decision of April 14th.

Now- YOU HAVE A CHOICE. THE NUSD WILL TAKE THIS DECISION OF CREDIT / INCOMPLETE TO THE VOTE OF THE SEVEN PUBLICLY ELECTED SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS ON TUESDAY MAY 5TH.

YOU CAN REACH OUT TO ALL OF THESE SEVEN PUBLICLY ELECTED OFFICIALS TO VOICE YOUR OPINION AS TO HOW YOU AS A VOTING CONSTITUANT WOULD LIKE THEM TO VOTE.

IF YOU FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD VOTE FOR OR AGAINST THE APPROVAL OF THE CREDIT OPTION, IT IS YOUR CHOICE TO DO SO.

Your recommendation will affect how these elected board members vote.
