ANDREW LANDEROS started this petition to publiclands@hcd.ca.gov and

We the citizens of Montebello and/or those that support the Montebello Golf Course call on the Department of Housing and Community Development to REJECT the City of Montebello’s designation of the golf course as "Surplus" land.

The City of Montebello is looking to rip apart the nearly century-old Montebello Golf Course (a city park) and erect a massive entertainment center (TopGolf). But that is not all, the city's plan is to install additional restaurants to compete with longtime established businesses already suffering from COVID-19 restrictions. The plan also calls for the addition two more hotels and the expansion of the Quiet Cannon. All of this benefits one guy, the operator of the Quiet Cannon and the 2 hotels already on the property - Brad Perrin. Perrin has an exclusive deal to sell all food and beverage on the property.

The two hotels already on the property promised to bring in millions but have not added a dime of revenue to the city's coffers according to a 2018 State Audit. The taxpayers of Montebello are already throwing millions away on bond payments on these "Money Pits" and will continue until 2046.

Now, City Officials want to hand Perrin more than $50 million in more bonds (YOUR TAXPAYER MONEY) in a no-bid contract, to tear apart the golf course, turn the 18-hole course into a 9-holes, steal park land that was to remain "for Public Golf Course purposes" according to the deed agreement with the city.

The City is looking to circumvent the Public Park Preservation Act of 1971 and the plan would violate the Migratory Bird Treaty Act by endangering the nesting grounds of Canadian Geese and Red-Tailed Hawks as well as other migratory birds.

The argument for tearing up the course was it was not profitable. Since the city has installed new management, more people than ever are playing the course and the profits are coming in.

We URGE the Department of Housing and Community Development to REJECT the designation of the golf course as Surplus.
