The Hope Island Lighthouse was a historic lighthouse on Hope Island in Lake Huron, in the Georgian Bay. There have been some groups trying to get funds to restore the lighthouse, and one of them was very close. However, the structure got demolished, on the grounds that it would "return the island to its natural state." The old lighthouse was refurbished a while back, and I feel that the owners of the island could have instead restored and made the lighthouse property look more lively instead of demolishing a historic place. I even believe that the lighthouse was declared as a heritage lighthouse as well. The structure had a great history, and the time has come to rebuild or create a replica of a significant part of Georgian Bay and Great Lakes history. As a lighthouse history enthusiast, I was looking forward to cruise out there someday and photograph this lighthouse. I was shocked to find that it was actually demolished. Please sign this petition to convince the owners of the island to rebuild or create a replica of this lighthouse, whether it be on the island or not. I also hope (no pun intended) that perhaps the Canadian Coast Guard would allow someone to make a "wrapper" around the modern light tower on the island, to make a new version of the old lighthouse, and make it look active. This has been done at a few Canadian lighthouses, including Pointe a Brideau and Campbellton.
