Rachel Carlson started this petition to Psychology Today

This petition is in response to the petition objecting to, and the subsequent removal of, the article titled: “Vilifying “Karen’s” May Diminish us all,” by Thomas Plante, PHD. This petition stands in support of understanding and ultimately kindness, even in the face of annoying or offensive individuals. It also stands in support of allowing differing opinions and philosophies on Psychological resources, such as Psychology Today. Critical Race Theory (which the original petitioner embraces) is one such philosophy, but it is not the only philosophy of members of this profession, including BIPOC.

While the article we support advocates for calling out racism it also advocates against cancelling people or ruining them.

The objecting petition by Stefani Roscoe, claimed that the article “illustrates the deeply embedded toxin of blind white privilege” which is a tenet of Critical Race Theory.

As counselors, psychologists and social workers, we are ethically bound to treat humans with dignity and respect even when they may offend us, such as in the case of “Karens.” We respectfully ask you to keep the original article on your website as an example that empathy and understanding is key to the profession, and differing opinions aren’t inherently harmful.
