Why this petition matters

Started by Jennifer Hope

After speaking with multiple general practitioners and nursing students, nurses it’s become clear to me there isn’t enough time or education in psychiatric areas in school or after. There are computer courses or computer modules therms aren’t interested in. In classroom would be a better hands on learning experience.

Of course those in the psychiatric departments and as specialists in psychiatry/psychology  are constantly refreshed on and updated on diagnosis changes, the latest language and medications. These things change constantly and psychiatric professionals shouldn’t be the only ones getting refreshers on all the changes in mental health and treatment.

I’ve heard nurses saying they would love to attend a refresher course on mental health as it will help them be better patient advocates and nurses to those patients. A few months in school on this subject and a pass with a C is just not ok.

they talk about being unprepared for suicidal individuals and then security is involved and it all turns into something it might not have needed to be.

Lets give our general practitioners and nurses/nursing students the opportunity to keep up to date just like our doctors specializing in psychiatric/psychology do. And in person.

A few hours every few years there may be specific updates can’t be too much to ask?

the more knowledge the better treatment of patient's like myself!
