Funding for healthy lifestyles through walking @ Centennial Middle School Provo, Utah

Students at Centennial Middle School in Provo, Utah need a safe route to walk and bike to school. Three main issues exist that prevent safe walking and biking paths to school for students. These include speeding, crossing safety, and traffic flow in and out of the main parking lot and drop-off/pick up area. In order to address these issues, we would like funding from Provo City to make the following changes:
- Create a school zone using signs along 2320 N which will decrease speeding through the area
- Install a crosswalk and provide a crossing guard before and after school
- Use signs or other cues to direct the flow of traffic into the main parking lot from 2320 N.
We feel that these changes will dramatically increase student safety and promote healthy lifestyles through providing safe walking and biking routes to the school.
The above suggestions to increase walking and biking safety have been presented as a result of observing traffic patterns at and around the school as well as speaking with the principle, community council, and parents involved with Centennial Middle School.
