RE:  Peachland Watershed - Deep Creek and Trepanier Creek

The Peachland Watershed Protection Alliance (PWPA) is a non-profit society of concerned citizens seeking answers and solutions to our water crisis.

One of our most life-sustaining essentials is safe drinking water.  We need to protect it for our children, our grandchildren, our families and our friends. Today, our Peachland watersheds and our drinking water are at risk because of proposed mining exploration.  A new Brenda Mines – and other proposed mines - may soon start mining in our watersheds if we do not raise our voices.  The original Brenda Mines left our community threatened by contamination and toxic tailing ponds.  It operated for 20 years closing down in 1990.  In the event of any failure of a new Brenda Mines tailing pond, the devastation down Trepanier Creek would be environmentally disastrous and possibly life-threatening.  We do not need more mines and more tailings ponds creating more risk and removing square kilometers of essential forest cover.  Right next door, the 2014 Mount Polley tailings spill caused the Cariboo Regional District to order a state of emergency to protect local citizens.  Peachland’s elected Council is opposed to further mining exploration in our watershed and has made this opposition known to the Provincial Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources.  This is not first time Peachland’s Council opposed exploration in our watershed.  A similar opposition was raised in 2018.  Peachland's Watershed Protection Alliance supports the Council's opposition to such exploration.  The PWPA urges you to help Save Our Watershed.  Please join our petition to be presented to our Provincial Government calling upon it to stop any mining exploration and, indeed, any mining in our community drinking watersheds.
