Why this petition matters

Started by Gabe Mernoff

Today, the community of Providence - parents, students, teachers, and other community members - are expressing our support for community input in decision-making for Providence Public Schools. We need a transparent process for the good of our kids and public schools, and we need transparency around hiring a new PPSD superintendent today!

The new superintendent should be chosen in a clear, transparent process that involves the community and the PPSD School Board. Right now, we need the School Board’s and the State’s support for efforts asking to post the vacancy for a new superintendent expeditiously!

Further, the School Board must continue to be accountable in carrying out its duty to include the community in everything it does. To this end, the community demands that the School Board must hold a special meeting by next Friday, March 11th to discuss the hiring process for a new superintendent. This process should include the School Board pushing for the immediate posting of the position, as well as a blueprint for the timeline, plans for community involvement, and metrics with non-negotiable timelines and commitments.
