Emily Compton started this petition to NHS and

What is a Personal Assistant? PAs to vulnerable adults provide care in the home, take vulnerable adults out and about, and help 1:1 in colleges and schools. At the moment, there isn't a requirement to provide training to PAs, and there isn't an observation system from an external source to check the PA is working to provide their client with the best source of care.

I would like to see agencies be required to make training compulsory for all Personal Assistants and Carers for Vulnerable Adults, as it is not fair on the person receiving care or the PA themselves. We need to increase the quality of care for vulnerable adults in the UK, and we can start by increasing the frequency and accessibility of training to PAs.

If a client needs to receive physical care, it should be mandatory to receive moving and handling training, but at the moment there is no first hand training provided or required. We are allowing wheelchair users who need help in toilet to be handled and assisted by untrained PAs, without any introduction given on how to assist individuals.

Without training being more readily available, it is dangerous for clients who need this extra support.
