Why this petition matters

We the residents, tourists, & small business owners of Norwalk, CT are asking the City of Norwalk to provide safe Parking Spot Barriers for small businesses in 2022.

The City of Norwalk has made an official statement for 2022:

"We will not be supporting the barriers this outdoor dining season. We will be working to launch a parklet program, where the business owner is responsible for the cost, maintenance and removal of the barriers. We anticipate this program will be in place for the 2023 outdoor dining season."

The City of Norwalk has no plans to support small businesses by providing outdoor parking spot barriers in 2022. What are small business owners expected to do this year, while we struggle to rebuild what we've lost the past 2 years throughout the uncertainty of the pandemic? How has the City of Norwalk been using their resources during the last 2 years if they do not have a "parklet program" already developed? We are still under a national Pandemic, the virus and other variants still exist, and people should have the choice to sit outside in front of small businesses safely.

The City of Norwalk is still distributing daily reports on COVID-19 numbers, testing site information, as well as CDC guidelines - and yet they will not reinstate the parking spot barriers in 2022. At a time when our local economy is still recovering, this decision is both hypocritical and neglectful, while other towns and cities are continuing to support their small businesses by supplying these outdoor parking spot barriers. We are asking the City of Norwalk to please reconsider this decision and to respond to the needs of small businesses at this time.

Small businesses have worked against all odds, regulations, curfews, and closures. Please support us now! Patrons deserve better than this! Norwalkers deserve better than this!
