Apart from the threat of coronavirus, mental health has been another issue faced by a lot of Filipinos during the ongoing pandemic. Due to the rule on social distancing, most are experiencing depression or anxiety as they are not able to be together with their friends and families. According to a research made by Hawkley and Capitanio, who are both research psychologists, social isolation has been linked to depression and anxiety. Because of that, it may lead to unhealthy habits which can result in poor health. This increases their risk of contracting the virus.

Besides that, there are people that are facing overwhelming workload such as students and medical frontliners. Likewise, services provided through face-to-face means are discouraged with the implementation of the community quarantine in the Philippines. Consequently, there are limited means to access mental health support.

With that, our goal is to provide virtual access to mental health services for those who are in need of guidance and comfort and we plan to do this by creating a mobile app called Solace. It is a mobile application that bridges its users and counselors for seamless access to virtual mental health services. Additionally, it is an avenue for frontliners to join a frontliner community where members can receive and reciprocate support for their physical necessities. The app also provides peer listening where nonmedical practitioners can volunteer as a listener.
