Reduce Traffic Volumes Over the Yates Ford Road Bridge over Bull Run

This petition requests that the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board conduct traffic studies of the Clifton /Fairfax Station area. It is the perception of the community that traffic has increased dramatically over the past 15 years on Virginia’s secondary and tertiary roads in this area. These impacted routes particularly include Old Yates Ford Road where it crosses Bull Run between Fairfax County and Prince William County as well as Henderson, Yates Ford, Maple Branch, Wolf Run Shoals, and Chapel Roads. In addition to the traffic, the observed speeding and traffic incidents have increased enormously. There is debris from accidents along these roadways and damage to residential properties. This traffic congestion impedes emergency vehicles including police, fire, and ambulance services to residents in the area. This study should include how many vehicles in this traffic flow actually stop in Clifton, presumably to patronize businesses. Finally, one of the options might be for the CTB to exercise its authority under Code of Virginia §33.2-501 to designate Old Yates Ford Road where it crosses Bull Run as HOV Only (2) northbound in the mornings and southbound in the afternoons during rush hours.
