Today Gwinnett County Public Schools emailed students and faculty with information that a law put in place six years ago is to be reverted. As of now "A student's gender is determined by the gender noted on his/her certificate at birth." The email goes onto say that Georgia State law prohibits discrimination based on gender within athletic programs, but manages to project just that. As of now the rule in place is specifically targeting transgender athletes but this will undoubtedly lead to further discrimination of transgender students in the county, not specifically affiliated with athletics. For a school district that prides themselves on diversity, GCPS fails to embody that.In order to protect an already disenfranchised group let your voice be heard by signing this petition before the May 19th school board meeting.
